Orange Farm School

I was so excited to finally be going to Orange Farm. Abram picked me up and drove me to the Nyama’s house in Orange Farm. We were greeted by their niece, Mary.  Abram called President and he said that I was to leave my bags at his home and go directly to the school. So Abram dropped me off at the school where I was greeted by the deputy director and he and I chatted for a bit. Then the Relief Society President, Sister Mazwi (Nomsa) arrived.  She said that President may be late so she would stay with me. The children were leaving their classrooms and assembling their chairs in the courtyard. I had a tour of the school and while we were walking around a saw a little girl that I recognized. Then we went to sit in an office and the deputy director showed me the program for the presentation.

Sister Mazwi told me that she had seen Sister Ellen coming. I looked around the corner as she walked in and when she saw me she looked as if she had seen a ghost. She and I embraced and I felt her legs buckle under her. She sobbed a bit and said, “oh no, I can’t take this. It is you. I thought it was Sister Eckland. You are here. I can’t believe it.” It was so sweet. She was so surprised to see me. The rest of the day progressed as outlined above. It was a wonderful ceremony. I felt bad that we didn't have enough bags for all the children. There were probably 300 children there and we only gave out about 90 bags. The bags were given to children that the staff had selected as the most needy.
